Oven roasted chicken Tandoori made tender from a simple marinade of yogurt, lemon and spices. I used my homemade chicken tandoori masala in this recipe. This masala is my mom’s secret recipe. I tested this masala on my chicken tandoori and taste was delicious.

You don’t need a tandoor oven to make tandoori chicken. You can cook it over a charcoal grill or just in an oven with a broiler.Tandoori chicken is tender, moist, juicy.

In this post, I will teach you a homemade Chicken Tandoori recipe which I learned from my mom.In this recipe I am using chicken drumsticks.

TIPS ON HOW TO BAKE TANDOORI CHICKEN IN OVEN?

Tip 1 : Preheat your oven to 300°F.

Tip 2: Bake the marinated chicken in the oven at 350°F for 15 min.

Tip 3: For dryness on chicken skin ,brush with oil.

Ingredients

  • Chicken Leg Pieces – 5-6

  • Lemon Juice – 1 tsp

  • Salt as per taste

  • Ginger-Garlic Paste – 1 tsp

  • Garam Masala – 1 tsp

  • Cumin Powder – 1 tsp

  • Chili Powder- 1 tsp

  • Yogurt – 2 tbsp

  • Kasuri Methi – 1 tsp

  • Homemade Tandoori Masala Powder- 1 tsp

  • Red Color – 1 drop [Optional]

  • Turmeric Powder- 1 tsp

  • Oil – 1 tsp

Directions

  • Clean the chicken and pat it dry.
  • Use a sharp knife to cut slits into the chicken leg pieces; this will allow the marinade to really get into the chicken.
  • 3 slits per drumstick.If you are using chicken thigh then 4 to 5 per slits.
  • For first marination process add salt , lemon and turmeric powder on chicken leg pieces. Keep aside for 10 min.
  • After 10 min, add ginger-garlic paste, Garam Masala, Yogurt, Kasuri Methi, Homemade Tandoori Masala Powder, Cumin Powder, Red Color, Chili Powder and oil. mix it well.
  • Spread the marinade all over the chicken and let marinate at least 7-12 hours
  • Now it’s time to cook the chicken. preheat the oven at 300 F.
  • Cover aluminum foil on grill and place grill tray on it.
  • Arrange marinated chicken pieces on tray,Bake the marinated chicken in the oven at 350 F for 15 min
  • To avoid dryness on the skin and the surface of the chicken, brush with oil half way and turn the chicken over while baking.
  • Once chicken turn over apply the remaining paste on the other side of chicken.
  • Continue baking for another 15 min. Cook chicken on grill until no longer pink and juices run clear
  • Chicken tandoori is ready to serve. Garnish with cilantro and lemon wedges.

You can make this spice mix ahead of time and store it in an airtight container for a month or two.Having the spice mix handy makes creating a tasty meal a simple matter of marinating and grilling your dish.
