Ganpati bappa has arrived and I am so excited.This recipe is very close to my heart-I remember my mom,my grandma make modak on the first day of Ganesh chaturthi.modak is a sweet dumpling made with coconut and jaggary.This modak offering to lord ganesha.These deep fried modak with sweet coconut stuffing and crispy outside covering.Ukadiche Modak is quite difficult for beginners so I thought I will share easy version of Modak.. try this recipe at home.its delicious!!!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Maida / All purpose flour.

  • A pinch of Salt.

  • 1 tsp Ghee.

  • 1/4 cup Water.

  • 1 cup Coconut.

  • 1/2 cup of jaggery.

  • Dry fruits.

  • Cardamom powder

  • Oil for frying.

Directions

  • Take coconut, jaggery and cardamom powder in pan. Turn the heat on medium.
  • Mix them well. And let it cook with stirring continuously.
  • Jaggery will start to meld down.cook it well.It might take 4-5 minutes. Do not cook for longer time otherwise stuffing will become very hard.
  • Let the stuffing cool. let’s make the outer layer for modak.
  • Take all purpose flour, ghee, salt in a bowl. Add a tablespoon of oil. And mix it well.
  • Add water little at a time and knead into the stiff and smooth dough just.
  • Cover the dough with a towel and let it sit for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, knead the dough once again.
  • Make a parts of the dough and Roll it using a rolling pin into 4-inch diameter circle.
  • Put some stuffing in the center.Apply some water or milk to the edges
  • Now take it into your palm and Start pinching the edges.
  • Now bring all the pleats together in the center very carefully. Do the same for all Modak.
  •  Heat oil in a pan on medium heat for deep frying.
  • Fry until it turn into golden brown color.
    Take them out of oil and drian excess oil and transfer them into a dish.
  • Fried modak are ready.
